The 1940 U.S. Census was Released on April 2, 2012. Our society has two indexing efforts ongoing. We welcome anyone interested to join one or both of these efforts.
One effort is part of the 1940 U.S. Census Community Project. The initiative aims to publish a free, online searchable name index of the 1940 U.S. Federal Census. This online index will be free forever, offering family history researchers a rich genealogical data set for their ongoing use. It will allow the public to easily search every person found in the census and view digital images of the original census pages where he or she is listed. The 1940 U.S. Census is expected to be the most popular U.S. record collection released to date. As of May 6th, Tennessee was ten percent complete. With your help we can make this 100% and searchable, anyone is welcome to join!

Please note that we plan to hold our annual June outing sometime in Late June 2012. It will include a Potluck style lunch; Board of Directors meeting and the July Quarterly Meeting. Date, time and further details will be announced very soon.
For our annual march outing on March 10, 2012, the Henry County Genealogical Society took a trip to the Palmersville Historical Society in Palmersville, TN. The Palmersville Historical Society is located in the old Palmersville branch of the Weakley County Bank. The Historical Society remodeled the building and opened their doors in the Fall of 2005. As you enter the building there is a display of photo's and memorabilia focused on the small one and two room school houses from the Palmersville area.
Every year we work on a special project. This years project is collecting recipes for a future cookbook to be produced by the Society. Recipes are being solicited from members with emphasis on hand-me-down favorites. Members are asked to include any family stories relative to each recipe, if available. Any number of recipes may be submitted.
Please bring your recipes and stories to the genealogy room at the library, send them to HCGS Cook Book, P. O. Box 1411, Paris, TN 38242 or via e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
